What is fat transfer?
Fat transfer, also known as fat grafting or fat injections, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses your own fat to restore volume and smooth out the contours of your face or body. Utilizing autologous fat, which is fat harvested from your own body, offers a natural and often more permanent solution compared to synthetic fillers like Restylane or Juvederm.
Can fat transfer effectively be used to restore the volume of disfiguring facial or body scars?
Yes, fat transfer can be highly effective in restoring volume and contour to disfiguring facial or body scars.
Autologous fat acts as a natural filler that is more likely to provide permanent results compared to synthetic fillers.
Fat transfer also benefits from the presence of stem cells in the autologous fat, which helps regenerate fat cells and maintain the volume of the transferred fat over time. This regenerative quality makes fat transfer an excellent choice for addressing disfiguring scars and achieving smoother, more natural-looking skin.
What can I expect during a fat transfer procedure?
Fat transfer is performed by harvesting fat from donor sites such as the lower tummy or inner thighs. The fat aspirate is then filtered to ensure only pure fat is used. A pocket at the recipient site is created by microneedling with a sharp-tip needle to break up deep scar adhesions. The pure fat is then injected into these pockets and overfilled by approximately 10-15% to ensure optimal results.
Recovery from a fat transfer procedure is nearly immediate. You may experience slight swelling for 3-5 days. The final result, however, will not be fully visible until 2-3 months after the procedure, allowing time for the fat to integrate and settle. If there is any unused fat, it can be frozen for future injections if needed.
Can fat transfer be combined with other treatments?
Yes, fat transfer can be combined with other treatments such as scar revision, Fraxel laser resurfacing, V-Beam laser for hyperemia, and mechanical dermabrasion to achieve the most optimal outcome.
Experience the benefits of fat transfer and restore your skin's natural volume and contour with expert care. Contact The Aesthetic Surgery Center today to schedule your consultation and take the first step toward a more confident you.
